Honda Mobilio Description

HCIL has recently introduced its latest multi purpose vehicle Honda Mobilio in petrol and diesel versions. The petrol trims are incorporated with a 1.5-litre, i-VTEC petrol mill that displaces 1497cc. It has 4-cylinders, 16 valves and is based on a single overhead camshaft valve configuration. It produces a maximum power of 118bhp at 6600rpm and generates 145Nm torque at 4600rpm. It is integrated with an electronic fuel injection system that helps in giving 17.3 Kmpl on highways and 13.8 within the city. This MPV crosses the speed barrier of 100 Kmph in 13 to 14 seconds. The diesel version are powered by a 1.5-litre, i-DTEC engine that is integrated with a common rail fuel injection system. This motor is capable of generating a peak power of 98.63bhp at 3600rpm and yields torque output of 200Nm at 1750rpm. This DOHC based mill displaces 1498cc and returns a maximum mileage of 24.2 Kmpl. The car maker has coupled both these engines with a five speed manual transmission gear box that transmits torque output to its front wheels. In terms of suspension, its front axle is affixed with a McPherson strut and a torsion beam is fitted on the rear one. The E and S trims are fitted with a set of 15 inch steel wheels, while the other two variants are equipped with a stylish set of 15 inch alloy wheels. These rims are further covered with tubeless radial tyres of size 185/65 R15 that provide strong  grip on roads. The braking system is quite efficient with disc brakes fitted to its front wheels and drum brakes are used for the rear ones. It is incorporated with a collapsible electric power assisted steering system that has tilt adjustment function. It supports a minimum turning radius of 5.4 meters and results in convenient handling.

The automaker has designed it with an overall length of 4386mm along with a width and height of 1683mm and 1603mm respectively. The wheelbase of 2652mm is quite good and it has a ground clearance of 189mm. The pleasant internal cabin is quite spacious and accommodate at least seven passengers. The rear seat is reclining and has 60:40 split folding function, while the third seat has 50:50 foldable facility. The advanced 2-DIN audio unit is available in all the trims except in base level variant. It features AM/FM radio tuner, MP3 player, Aux-in, USB port and has speakers as well. The interior look is further enhanced by silver finished steering wheel, gear shift knob and door handles. There are a few utility based aspects like accessory socket for charging devices, cup holders and front seat back pocket. In terms of comfort, it is bestowed with an ECO lamp, power windows with driver side auto down function, height adjustable driver's seat, key less entry and an air conditioning unit with heater. The striking exterior aspects in its frontage include headlight cluster with halogen lamps, chrome radiator grille, body colored bumper and a couple of fog lamps. Its side profile looks attractive with outside rear view mirrors, door handles and neatly carved wheel arches. The rear end has a radiant tail light cluster, micro antenna, boot lid and LED high mount stop lamp.

Overall Review

Honda Cars India Limited has is one of the largest auto makers in the country and has a lot of splendid vehicles in their stable. The company had officially launched its much awaited multi purpose vehicle Mobilio in the country's car market sometime back. This MPV competes against the likes of  Maruti Ertiga and other vehicles in this segment. It is being offered in both petrol and diesel engine options in several trim levels. This model series has been recently added with three 'Option' variants, which are V Option i DTEC, RS Option i DTEC and V Option i VTEC. These trims comes with a few additional features like a rear view parking camera and an AVN (audio video navigation) system, which is equipped with a 15.7cms touchscreen display including maps and satellite based voice guided navigation. Its internal section will also feature woody internal panel on the dashboard and door armrest for further enhancing the look of its cabin. The petrol variants are equipped with a 1.5-litre engine, which comes with a displacement capacity of 1497cc. This power plant has the ability to produce 118bhp along with 145Nm of maximum power and torque output respectively. At the same time, the 1.5-litre diesel engine can displace 1498cc and deliver an impressive performance. It has the ability to churn out a peak power output of 98.6bhp in combination with 200Nm of torque. The braking and suspension mechanism are quite proficient, which keeps the vehicle well balanced at all times. For augmenting the braking mechanism, it also has anti lock braking system along with electronic brake force distribution. Its internal section is quite spacious and incorporated with a number of features for the convenience of its occupants. It is incorporated with well cushioned seats, which provides ample leg space. These seats are covered with premium fabric upholstery and are integrated with adjustable head restraints. Its second row seats comes with 60:40 split folding and sliding function, while the third row seats have 50:50 folding function. The smooth dashboard features AC vents, a large glove box, a three spoke steering wheel with a company logo and an illuminated instrument panel. This MPV is bestowed with a lot of crucial safety aspects, which are keyless entry, a high mounted brake light, central locking system, an advanced engine immobilizer for preventing the vehicle from unauthorized entry and seat belts for all passengers. It comes with an ACE (advanced compatibility engineering) body structure with impact beams that protects the passengers sitting inside in case of any collision. Apart from these, the V and RS variants are also incorporated with front dual SRS airbags, front seat belts with pretensioner and load limiter function, speed sensitive auto door lock and security alarm system. All these features put together makes this trim one of the safest to drive. On the other hand, it comes with a standard warranty of 2 years or 40,000 kilometers (whichever is earlier). However, customers can also extend this warranty period for another two years at an additional cost.

Mileage and Fuel Economy

The 1.5-litre petrol engine is incorporated with a PGM-Fi fuel supply system, which allows the MPV to deliver an impressive fuel economy. It can generate about 17.3 Kmpl on the highways and 13.8 Kmpl within the city. On the other hand, 1498cc diesel engine has a direct injection fuel supply system that has the ability to produce about 24.2 Kmpl on the bigger roads. While it can produce 18.3 Kmpl in the city traffic, which is quite good for this segment.

Colors

At present, this newly launched vehicle is available in six exterior paint options, which includes Majestic Blue Metallic, Taffeta White, Urban Titanium, Carnelian Red Pearl, Alabaster Silver and Brilliant Gold Metallic finish for the customers to select from.  

Acceleration and Pick up

The 1.5-litre petrol engine is cleverly mated with a five speed manual transmission gear box and it can deliver a decent acceleration and pick up. It enables the vehicle to attain a maximum speed in the range of 150 to 160 Kmph and can cross the speed barrier of 100 Kmph in about 13 to 14 seconds. At the same time, diesel engine is also coupled with the same 5-speed manual gear box. These variants can accelerate from 0-100 Kmph in approximately 14 seconds. It has the ability to achieve a top speed of 165 Kmph, which is rather decent for this segment.

Appearance

This newly launched Honda Mobilio has an eye-catching body structure and is fitted with a lot of striking features. To begin with the frontage, it has a large windscreen that is made of green tinted glass and integrated with a set of intermittent wipers. The bold radiator grille is fitted with a thick chrome slat. It is embedded with a prominent company logo in the center. This grille is flanked by a neatly carved headlight cluster, which is incorporated with halogen lamps and turn indicator. The bumper is painted in body color and houses a large air intake section for cooling the engine. The air dam of V, V Option, RS and RS Option variants are flanked by a pair of bright fog lamps. The side profile is elegantly designed and dominated by stylish aspects like expressive character lines and body colored door handles. The flared up wheel arches are fitted with a set of steel and alloy wheels depending upon the variants. These are further covered with tubeless radial tyres. The external rear view mirrors of its base variant are painted in black color, while other trims have body colored ORVMS, which are electrically adjustable. It also has door center black sash tape for enhancing the look of its side profile. The rear end has a large windscreen with a defogger and high mounted stop lamp. The top end variants are also integrated with a wash and wipe function. Apart from these, it also has a body colored bumper with a pair of reflectors, a curvy boot lid with variant badging and a stylish tail light cluster. In addition to these, RS variants also has some exclusive features like differently designed front and rear bumper, LED position lamp, tailgate spoiler and side sill garnish.

Comfort Feature

The roomy internal cabin of this MPV has a number of sophisticated features. The illuminated instrument panel has a digital tachometer, headlight off and ignition key reminder notification, seat belt reminder notification, door ajar warning, a low fuel warning light and a few other functions as well. Other utility based aspects includes front seat back pockets, cup and bottle holders, ECO lamp, day and night internal rear view mirror, second row seat center armrest (only in V, V Option and RS trims) remote fuel lid opener and sun visors with passenger side vanity mirror. It has a spacious boot compartment, which can be increased by folding its third row seat. The advanced 2-DIN integrated music system (not available in base variant) supports CD/MP3 player and radio with AM/FM tuner along with a few input options like Aux-in port and USB interface and speakers. Apart from the E trim, other variants get a multi-functional steering wheel, which is mounted with audio and call control buttons. The efficient air conditioning unit comes with rear AC vents, which helps in cooling the entire cabin quickly and it also has a heater as well. The responsive power steering system comes with tilt and telescopic adjustment function that makes handling easier even in heavy traffic conditions. Apart from these, it also has all four power windows with driver side auto down function, ECO lamp, power foldable ORVMs with turn indicator (only in RS variants), driver seat with height adjustable function, rear defogger and cabin lights. It also has a 12V power socket in center console for charging mobiles and other electronic devices. The RS trim gets heat absorbing front windscreen, armrests and inside door handles with chrome treatment. The recently launched 'Option' variants are blessed with a rear view parking camera and new audio video navigation system (AVN) with 15.7cm touchscreen display. It supports i-Pod connectivity, CD/DVD player, radio with AM/FM tuner, USB interface, Aux-in port along with Bluetooth connectivity. 

Dimensions

This model series is designed with a large wheelbase of 2650mm that ensures a spacious cabin inside and it has a ground clearance of 189mm. The overall length is 4386mm along with a total height of 1603mm and a width of 1683mm that also includes external rear view mirrors. It has a 42 litre fuel tank, which helps in planning longer journeys. This MPV has a spacious 232 litre boot compartment, which can be increased to 521 litres by folding its third row seat. The steering wheel supports a minimum turning radius of 5.4 meters (for diesel trims) and 5.2 meters (for petrol variants). 

Engine

The petrol trims are fitted with a 1.5-litre, i-VTEC engine, which can displace 1497cc. It is integrated with 4-cylinders and 16-valves using a single overhead camshaft based valve configuration. It has the ability to churn out 118bhp at 6600rpm in combination with 145Nm at 4600rpm. It is cleverly mated with a five speed manual transmission gear box. Its diesel variants are fitted with a 1.5-litre, i-DTEC engine that has the ability to displace 1498cc. This 4-cylinder based mill produces a power of 98.6bhp at 3600rpm along with 200Nm of torque output at just 1750rpm. This motor is also mated with the same five sped manual transmission gear box. 

Wheels

The E and S variants are fitted with a robust set of 15 inch steel wheels, which are covered with full wheel covers. While the V and RS trims get a set of 15 inch alloy wheels, which are further fitted with 185/65 R15 sized tubeless radial tyres. The manufacturer has also given a full size spare wheel, which is affixed in the boot compartment and it is a standard feature across all variants.

Suspension

The front axle has been paired with a McPherson strut, while its rear axle is assembled with a torsion beam type of mechanism that keeps this utility vehicle well balanced. 

Handling and Control

The front wheels are fitted with a set of discs and the rear ones get solid drum brakes. All the diesel variants along with top end petrol trim are equipped with anti lock braking system. It is also incorporated with a highly responsive collapsible electric power assisted steering system, which is tilt adjustable. 

Pros

After sales service is quite satisfying, ample interior space, good engine performance. 

Cons

No music system in the base variant, mileage of petrol variants needs to be improved.
