Hyundai i10

Hyundai i10 Description

Hyundai i10 Description Hyundai perfectly coined the phrase “the Next Gen i10” for its new avatar of comfort in October, 2007. Hyundai i10, a hatchback, adds oomph to the status of those who can’t dream of a sedan. One look at it and one falls in love with this small, cute, beautifully colored car. This small driving machine has been launched to hit the highs of this segment. The company confidently claims it to be the best seller with the best mileage being offered on this floor. The small car already has redefined city driving in it. And roping in Shahrukh Khan as brand ambassador definitely adds to the sales in India at least. The car has been given a juxtaposition of cute and aggressive looks on the exteriors. Hyundai i10 is fresh-looking and a class apart from every angle. A segment, somewhere between Santro and Getz, that was uptil now left untouched by Hyundai, is now raving about this hatchback. Giving a tough competition are Maruti Swift, newly launched Honda Brio, and Maruti Ritz. Although the car is quite a baby in terms of its comparison with its competitors, it vrooms ahead of the rest. With the launch of its new cousin model, the LPG variant, there are no rooms for doubts that the car would find yet another set of market for itself. The Next Gen i10 is not just beautiful from the outside; it’s just as safe in the inside also. The car is gifted with the ABS technology that provides it an amazing ability to prevent skidding and retaining the car’s steerability. ABS happens to be a cherry for the cutie, since it also helps against wheel lock-up during panic braking on slippery roads, thus ensuring stable braking. The two features that win are reverse parking sensor, which helps in tight-parking spaces, and dual airbags, which lessens the intensity of injuries, thus giving a confidence boost-up to driver. Since the Next Gen i10 has been brought in with two differently powered engines, the mileage and performance of both these are also different. The engines boost up the overall performance of the car with its displacement of 1086 cc and 1197 cc. One of them stands tall at 14 kmpl mileage on trafficked roads of cities and 19.8 kmpl on highways when the drive is comparatively smoother. The other models with the Kappa engine, give 15.4 kmpl in urban areas while on highway it gives around 19.2–20.3 kmpl. This Kappa engine is being given in India only by Hyundai. The company offers a range of models to choose from; Hyundai i10 Era, D-lite (petrol), Magna 1.1L (petrol), Hyundai i10 Era LPG, Magna (petrol), Hyundai i10 Magna LPG, Diesel (diesel), Sportz (petrol), Sportz Option (petrol), Sportz AT (petrol), Asta (petrol), Asta AT (petrol). Having bringing the LPG versions too, Hyundai sets itself ahead of others in terms of being eco-friendly. With the launch of its latest well-featured Hyundai i10 Blue Drive LPG, the car giant sets a standard for the Indian market also, which already is being followed globally.

Overall Review

India’s second largest auto manufacturer company Hyundai Motor Company launched its premium hatchback model Hyundai i10. The design of the hatchback is a definite a plus point, for it gets a high standing among its competitors. The company has certainly added a lot of energy and effort, to make the Hyundai i10 look much more aggressive than before. The interiors are nice and cozy, and there have been many tweaks done over time by Hyundai. This is the facelift version that has been launched in the Indian markets rather than the International model of Hyundai i10. The hatchback comes in 14 different variants with two different petrol engines. The Hyundai i10 is also available in LPG variants to make it economic and environment friendly, as the skyrocketing prices of petrol acts as a disincentive. The interior design of Hyundai i10 is now more stylish with light-brown and beige two-tone color scheme for the dashboard.

Mileage and Fuel Economy

The Hyundai i10 comes packed with two different engines and their mileage figures differ a little. The IRDE (intelligent responsive drive engine) offers a mileage of 14kmpl on the city roads and 19.8kmpl on highways. A new technological advanced Kappa engine in other variants is a little more fuel-efficient and does not compromise with the performance. It gives a mileage around 15.4kmpl on city roads and 20.3kmpl on highways. The Manual Shift Indicator that is a first-in-class feature available in Hyundai i10 helps to achieve the maximum fuel efficiency by optimum gear usage.

Colors

Hyundai i10 is available in many striking and eye warming colors like Carbon Grey, Crystal White, Stone Beige, Sleek Silver, Garnet Red, Phantom Black, Ice Silver and Electric Red respectively.

Acceleration and Pick up

The IRDE engine propels the Hyundai i10 from standstill to 100kmph in less than 16seconds and easily touches the mark of 149kmph. On the contrary, the Kappa engine is also very efficient, for it enables to cross the mark of 100kmph in just 13.02seconds and can achieve the top speed mark of 151kmph. However, the automatic variants with Kappa engine offers a bit lower acceleration and achieve the top speed only up to 140kmph.

Appearance

The new Hyundai i10 looks very fresh and appealing due to its different enthralling looks. The new radiator grille with the big wide air dam throws a pinch of aggressiveness, but gives the car, a refined and clean front fascia. The rear bumpers add grace and strength to the rear of the hatchback. The rear spoiler with the high-mount stop lamp presents a dazzling look from the rear. The slanting elongated wrap around clear headlamps add exquisiteness to the front face, while the new uniquely shaped fog lamps, neatly embedded in chrome surrounds, complement that look. The long and sleek tail lamps brighten the rear and enhance visibility. The turn indicators on the outside mirrors increase the safety while turning and buttress the style factor too. On the contrary, the OVRMs are electrically adjustable and possess the first-in-class heated function.

Comfort Feature

In the department of comfort, the hatchback again takes a high position. The legroom and headroom are quite spacious and made to accommodate five adult persons. The seats of the car are ergonomically designed with attached headrests. In addition, the Hyundai i10 cabin is insulated from the engine noise, and provides front and rear door full size armrests, rear parcel tray and seat back pockets. Hyundai i10 is equipped with front power windows and very efficient air conditioner with heater in all variants. Features like power windows in the front and rear, height-adjustable driver seat, motor-driven power steering and steering wheel remote control, the first-in-class foldable key, remote locking and unlocking facility with burglar alarm add to convenience and safety. Hyundai i10 comes with an advanced CD/MP3 compatible music system with FM and with Speakers providing the best in class entertainment. The sports model also comes with the audio and Bluetooth controls mounted on the steering wheel with AUX and USB ports on dashboard. This in-dash music system looks fabulous.

Dimensions

The Hyundai i10 five-seater premium hatchback model has exterior dimensions of 3565mm x 1595mm x1550mm respectively. The wheelbase of the car is 2380mm with a ground clearance of 165mm appropriate for the Indian roads. The front tread is of 1400mm and the rear tread is of 1385mm.

Engine

Hyundai provides 1.1L and 1.2L engines in its hatchback wherein, both are frugal and presents good performance and fuel efficiency. The 1.1L engine is IRDE2, 4 cylinders, 12 valves, SOHC (single overhead camshaft engine) having a swept volume of 1086cc, proving maximum power of 68BHP at 5500RPM and a peak torque of 99Nm in the range of 4500RPM. This engine is mated with an accurate 5 speed manual transmission. The new 1.2L Kappa engine having 4 cylinders, 16 valves, DOHC (double overhead camshaft) with VTVT technology is quite powerful. It has a swept volume of 1197cc accompanied with 78.9BHP at 6000RPM and a peak torque to be 111.7Nm at 4000RPM respectively. The engine is significantly more refined and drivable than before and pulls cleanly from 2000RPM to 6000RPM.

Wheels

The Hyundai i10 155/80 R13 sized tubeless tyres are mounted on 14inches steel wheels fully covered with wheel caps. These tyres are puncture resistant and hold firm on the roads.

Suspension

The hatchback comes equipped with MacPherson Strut with coil spring suspension system at the front and Coupled Torsion beam axle with coil spring system at the rear. The rear suspension retains the soft setup, which gives it a choppy and unsettled ride over bad roads.

Handling and Control

Hyundai i10 comes with disc brakes on its front wheels and drum brakes in its rear wheels with ABS technology (Antilock Brake System). In pressure braking situations, the brakes perform well and look planted. The car comes with power steering that is very responsive and enables the driver to control the car easily.

Pros

The car is very spacious from inside with an elegant seating position with large headroom and eye soothing interiors.

Cons

The car is fitted with a not so smooth engine and priced a little higher.
