Nissan Micra Description

Nissan, One of the most acclaimed automotive manufacturer from japan has introduced the facelifted version of its flagship hatchback Nissan Micra in India at an even held in Mumbai. The company has already introduced this version in the Thai automobile market and now it brought it to the Indian shores at a very competitive price tag. The company has already conducted some test runs for this premium hatch in Tamil Nadu that caught the attention of many on roads. Ever since it was first introduced to the Thai Markets, it is making quite a round of buzz in the automobile markets across the globe. Its perfect macho and aggressive body design is one of the reason why it has gained so much popularity in the segment. The company has made some wonderful modifications, especially to the exteriors that changed the feminine look of this hatch. Its interiors too got the update in the form of a new color scheme and few additional set of features inside. However, there is no update given to the technicalities of this premium hatch, which means, it is going to come with the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options. Now there are overall seven variants in the facelifted Nissan Micra series out of which, four variants hosts a diesel engine while the rest of the three variants are blessed with a petrol engine.

The Japanese automaker has not just introduced the facelifted version of Nissan Micra but also brought the CVT version of this premium hatch, which is a great news. The company has introduced CVT version of Sunny just recently and promised to introduce Nissan Micra with a CVT auto transmission gearbox. As promised, it has introduced the automatic version of Nissan Micra with petrol engine as standard under the hood. Interesting thing about the new automatic version is that it is more fuel efficient and more powerful one compared to the manual version of Nissan Micra. Thus, the company has managed to provide wide range of options to its customers which will certainly lure the Indian customers towards buying it. Also, this facelifted premium hatch has got a pretty impressive appearance that can easily turn the heads on the go. Now this facelifted version will lock horns with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift, Honda Brio, Renault Scala, Chevrolet Sail U VA, Hyundai i20 and others in the hatchback segment. The company is hoping to stretch its auto market share in the country in the coming few years.

Overall Review

2013 Nissan Micra, which was unveiled few months back has finally entered the Indian markets with an impressive price tag. This new version is made available in overall seven variants with both petrol and diesel engine options. Customers can also choose this premium hatch in between manual and CVT transmission gearbox options with petrol engine under the hood. The company has discontinued the base XE version in its lineup and added a mid range XL (optional) to its series with some additional features. The company has continued to offer this 2013 version with the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options without any update to its mechanism. However, its 1.2-litre petrol engine which is mated to a CVT transmission gearbox is more fuel efficient than its manual version which is an interesting aspect. On the other hand, its automatic version is a 1bhp more powerful compared to the manual version, which is another exciting aspect.

Mileage and Fuel Economy

The company claims that the CVT version of Nissan Micra blessed by a 1.2-litre petrol engine can produce a class leading mileage of 19.34 Kmpl compared to 18.44 Kmpl of its manual version. Its diesel version produces version has the ability to return 23.08kmpl of mileage, which is very attractive in the segment. Its diesel version is undoubtedly one of the most fuel efficient hatchbacks available in the automobile segment.

Colors

Nissan's premium hatchback Nissan Micra is made available in six different color shades which include Turquoise Blue, Blade Silver, Storm White, Olive Green, Onyx Black and Brick Red. All these colors are perfectly suited to this new hatch and make it look much more attractive in the segment. The interior cabin is offered in Piano Black color scheme, which will provide a sporty new feel to the occupants.

Acceleration and Pick up

The diesel version of the facelifted Nissan Micra is blessed with a 1.5-litre diesel engine which has the top speed in the range of 150 to160 Kmph. It can cross the 100 Kmph speed barrier in just about 13.36 seconds. On the other hand, its petrol version hosting a 1.2-litre has the maximum speed of 160 Kmph, which is quite exciting. This version can accelerate from 0-100 Kmph speed in just about 15 to 16 seconds.

Appearance

The 2013 Nissan Micra is probably one of the most attractive hatchbacks available in the country. Nissan has made quite a lot of changes to this hatch in order to bring a brand new look to its premium hatch. Its front facade has been revamped that brings an aggressive and sporty look with a lot of premium cues on it. Its headlight cluster, upper grille, lower grille, and bumper gets a re-treatment, which completely changed the face of this hatch. Now its head lamps became a bit sharper with a kind of arrow shaped design while its radiator grille got much bigger with company logo incorporated in the middle of it. The company logo fitted on the perforated radiator grille is surrounded by the V shaped chrome strip that adds richness to its front. The side profile gets a new style alloy wheels, body colored OVRMs and door handles, which makes it looks sportier. At the rear, it gets a new LED tail lamps and a new sporty bumper that completes the aggressive look of this hatch.

Comfort Feature

Nissan has introduced the facelifted version of the Nissan Micra with a list of comfort and convenience features, which are the best in class. The list includes automatic air conditioner, power assisted steering with tilt function, drive computer, iKey with push engine start, cup holders, bottle holders, advanced music system with FM/AM players, USB/AUX-In support and Bluetooth hands free, and electrically adjustable OVRMs, and a lot of other features.

Dimensions

2013 version of the Nissan Micra is a spacious hatchback which comes with huge space that can accommodate at least 5 passengers in it. Its petrol version comes with an overall height of 1530mm, while the diesel version comes at 1525mm of height. Width of both the versions is same at 1665mm while the ground clearance is at 154mm (petrol version) and 150mm (diesel version). This premium hatch comes with an impressive wheel base of 2450mm, which creates more space inside.

Engine

Nissan has introduced facelifted version of its premium hatch with two petrol and diesel fuel option. Its petrol version is blessed with a 1.2-litre, 3 cylinder engine, which is based on the DOHC valve configuration. This engine has the displacing capacity of 1198cc, which churns out 74.48bhp at 6000rpm and makes 104Nm of torque at 4000rpm. Its CVT version produces a power of 75.46bhp at 6000rpm, while yielding a torque of 104Nm at 4000rpm. On the other hand, its diesel version sports a 1.5-litre engine that displace at 1461cc. This engine has the ability to produce 62.72bhp at 4000rpm and generates 160Nm of torque output at 2000rpm.

Wheels

The top end version of this hatch gets a new sporty design 15 inch alloy wheels, which are further fitted with tubeless tyres of size 15x5.5J. The base and mid range versions are offered with 14 inch steel wheels with full wheel covers. These steel wheels are fitted with 14x5.5J sized tubeless tyres.

Suspension

This facelifted version of Nissan Micra sits on a robust suspension system that keeps this hatch well balanced and stable. Its front axle of this facelifted hatch has been fitted with a McPherson strut suspension system while the rear axle is equipped with a torsion beam type of suspension. Both these mechanisms ensure best in class drive comfort of the passengers.

Handling and Control

Handling this 2013 version of Nissan Micra will be very simple, especially for the first time car buyers. The company has incorporated a electric power assisted rack and pinion type of steering system that helps you to drive through heavy traffic. On the other side its front disc brakes and rear drum brakes assures full control over this hatch. Its braking mechanisms is further enhanced by Brake assist system along with ABS with EBD.

Exterior modifications are good, features are exceptional.

Cons

Diesel engine can be more powerful, price can be made more competitive.
